Welcome!

Welcome to the official blog of the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology! We are launching the blog with a series of posts from our Resource Management Program, whose staff we fondly refer to as the “fossil cops.” This series will address some common questions regarding fossil collecting and ownership in Alberta and will introduce you to important fossil sites in the province.

You’ll also learn about some of the significant fossils that have been discovered during various development and natural resource extraction activities such as road construction, mining, and pipeline excavations. The blog will also visit many other aspects pertaining to fossils and the law in Alberta.

In the coming year we will cover any new finds and publications from our scientists, so stay tuned!
